Kokura Nisai & Niigata Nisai Stakes - The Locks

Sunday, there are 2 graded stakes races in Japan.  At Kokura, there is the Kokura Nisai Stakes going 6 furlongs and the field of 13 is attracting a mix of colts and fillies.
At Niigata, there is the Niigata Nisai Stakes going 1 mile with a field of 18.  Ni=2 Sai=years old...so these are both races for 2yos.  Big competitive fields like these are why its great to bet on Japanese racing....trying to figure out how to do that stateside as it is impossible for a foreigner to get a JRA Wins (Japanese OTB) online account.

In the race at Kokura,  #1 Oken Hanamizuki (5-1) comes in with the fastest 6 furlong time and is complimented by fact that horse that came in 2nd in her last win came back to win. (2.5-1)won madien by 5 lengths and it was another 4 lengths to 3rd place.  The 2nd place finisher in that race came back to win a race that was open to winners, 3yos ran a slower 6f time later in the day. (6.5-1) has run twice at a mile a 2nd and a win so could be better at going longer but maybe talented enough to place at 6f. (18-1) won a 5 furlong maiden race by an impressive 6 lengths.

◎  01 Oken Hanamizuki
 ○  11 Makoto Reversal
▲ 10 Epice Arome
△ 04 Kinshi Two Stone

Lets go $10 W on #1 $1 exacta all over #1, $5WP 11, $1 Exacta box 1,11,10, 4
$1 Trifecta box 1,11,10,4 $2 Place Quinella 1,11,10,4

A bit chalky.

Epilogue
#10 Epice Arome wins, #11 Makoto Reversal 2nd...unfortunately they were 2nd and 1st in betting interests and in Japan the favorites get beat down.   "A bit chalky" is an understatement.

Bets $80  Wins 6.50 + 5.60 + 2.40  Net -$65.50

In Niigita, 18 colts and fillies will go 1 mile. (6.8-1) as a 2yo ran 7f faster than 2 sets of older horses that ran on same card. (41-1) already has won against winners at 6f.  Pedigree suggests could stretch out to a mile just fine.   #11 Just a Way, ジャスタウェイ(2.7-1), won maiden race at 1 mile by 5 lengths.  Winning time held up well against other horses running that day. (41-1) has experience against racing against winners and should move forward from that race.  Time of winning race is solid against older horses racing
later in same card.
